Mentor and Supporter

About the Role
We are seeking a warm, grounded, and reliable person to provide support and mentorship to Joemie, a deeply loved 22-year-old who lives at home with her mum in Havelock North.
This role is centred around guidance, connection, and practical life-skills support. It requires someone who can build a trusted relationship with Joemie, encourage her growth, and help her strengthen her independence—while always respecting her autonomy.
Flexibility is a critical component of this position. Some hours are fixed - the fixed hours are:
- Tuesday 4:30 pm – 7:00 pm & Thursday 5:00 pm – 7:30 pm
These fixed sessions account for five hours of work each week.
The remaining five hours per week will be planned on a fortnightly basis, depending on the family's schedule and Joemie's needs.
Ten hours per week is the agreed minimum weekly hours for the role – however, there will certainly be weeks when Joemie requires more support and you'll be offered additional support hours – these will be negotiated based on her needs for the fortnight ahead.
Key Responsibilities
- Build a caring and respectful relationship with Joemie based on trust and mutual respect.
- Provide support in a way that prioritises teaching, guidance, and skill-building, rather than taking over tasks.
- Support Joemie to prepare simple, nutritious evening meals—including travelling with her to the supermarket to select ingredients.
- Assist with basic household tasks such as vacuuming, changing bed linen, and light cleaning.
- Help Joemie learn and maintain healthy boundaries and safe habits on social media.
- Identify appropriate community activities or opportunities for engagement and accompany her to explore these.
- Spend time with Joemie at home when she is not up to going out.
Essential Requirements
- Flexibility – the family's schedule works on a two-week cycle and includes some fluidity; the successful applicant must be able to adapt accordingly.
- Full NZ driver's license and access to a safe, reliable vehicle.
- Reside in or near Havelock North.
- A positive attitude and good sense of humour.
- Strong initiative and the ability to work independently.
- High emotional intelligence, with the ability to read situations, respond calmly, and support Joemie respectfully.
Employment Arrangements
There are two options available for employment structure: Contractor or Employee.
Option 1: Contractor
- Paid $37 per hour.
- Responsible for managing your own tax, ACC, GST (if applicable), sick leave, holiday pay, and other entitlements.
- Required to submit invoices for payment.
Option 2: Employee
- Employed under an Individual Employment Agreement outlining all terms and conditions of employment.
- Paid $28–$30 per hour.
- Entitled to statutory leave (holiday pay, sick leave, bereavement leave, etc.) as set out in the Employment Agreement.
