This is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate and experienced Senior Internal Auditor to make a meaningful impact in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

As a Senior Internal Auditor at Watercare, you will deliver high-quality internal audit services and assurance, with a strong focus on cost transparency and financial oversight. You'll be instrumental in evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of financial data used by suppliers to charge Watercare, ensuring accuracy, fairness, and accountability.

Please note: This role requires a high level of engagement with suppliers and will involve spending at least four days per week onsite at supplier offices, in and around the Auckland region. You will work in a team alongside a Quantity Surveyor when out at supplier offices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality internal audit services and assurance to support Watercare's strategic and operational objectives
  • Provide visibility and oversight of contractor costs charged to Watercare, ensuring transparency and value for money
  • Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of financial data and cost structures used by suppliers as the basis for invoicing Watercare
  • Assess compliance with policies, standards, and legislation
  • Conduct routine and special audits
  • Provide expert advice and partner with the business
  • Identify process and system improvement opportunities

To succeed in this role, you'll need to demonstrate proven experience working within large, complex public or corporate organisations and the ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment.

Your qualifications and expertise will include:

  • A professional qualification such as Chartered Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor, or a similar recognised designation
  • A solid understanding and hands-on experience with internal audit methodologies, processes, and procedures
  • Experience in the construction industry and a strong understanding of construction contracts
  • Strong commercial acumen, including a sound grasp of business needs, relevant legislation, and key business drivers
  • The ability to work independently, deliver high-quality outcomes with minimal supervision, and build strong relationships with stakeholders
