Academic Staff Member – Dance (Hourly Paid)

Kaupapa | Purpose

To provide specialized tuition for Performing Arts ākonga in Musical Theatre dance (Ballet and Jazz). This tuition will be informed by industry/professional experience and will be delivered using effective teaching strategies that meets student needs and professional standards.

To fulfil necessary administrative obligations as relating to Dance tuition.

Note: this position is for fixed hours in each term to cover weekly Musical Theatre dance sessions and assessments. The number of hours will depend on the specific dance discipline being taught (e.g. Jazz, Ballet or Tap).

Reports to: Nick Braae

Team: Music and Performing Arts, Wintec

Remuneration: $60 per hour plus 0.2 loading and 8% Holiday Pay "as you go"

Teaching Quality

Facilitating Learning:

  • Specialized dance tuition is informed by quality teaching and learning strategies as appropriate for a degree context;

  • Develops and maintains supportive relationships with and between learners by ensuring a culturally safe learning environment that accommodates a wide range of perspectives.

  • Provides for individual learning and pastoral care needs and refers ākonga to appropriate

support services as required.

Planning and Preparation

  • Tutor will prepare dance routines and exercises as appropriate for the different year levels. This content will be informed by knowledge of industry/professional standards.

  • In some instances, tutors may be required to work with other Performing Arts kaimahi to develop content for a showcase event. This work will be built into existing allocation of hours.

Assessment of Student Learning:

  • Applies appropriate assessment tools that are valid, sufficient, fair and transparent;

  • Informs students of assessment criteria and scheduling in a timely manner, ensures students

receive constructive feedback on their progress

  • Participates, as needed, in institutional internal and external moderation activities for example, pre-delivery checks, pre- and post- moderation.

  • Fulfils the requirements of Wintec's systems, practices and legislative obligations by ensuring administrative responsibilities, internal and external moderation, monitoring and review requirements are completed, as needed;
