- 2.5/25 class time allowance
- Modern onsite accommodation
St Paul's Collegiate School is one of New Zealand's premier independent day and boarding schools. With a growing roll of 880 students, we provide a learning environment that fosters academic excellence, character development, and meaningful contributions beyond our school gates. This is an exciting time to join our school. From 2026, we will welcome our first cohort of junior girls (Year 9). In 2027, this group will progress into Year 10, resulting in a fully co-educational school offering from Year 9 to Year 13 for all students.
We are looking for a passionate and engaging person who has a genuine interest in pastoral care to join one of our three Boys' houses from Term 1, 2026.
The successful applicant will be confident teaching English across the curriculum from Year 9 through to Year 13. You will bring a collaborative, student-centred approach to your teaching, integrate technology effectively, and demonstrate a commitment to incorporating maatauranga Maaori within the English curriculum.
Due to the nature of this position, the Deputy Housemaster is required to live onsite in a modern home attached to the boarding house. All utility costs (including wifi and power) are covered, and meals in the Dining Hall are available when on duty. This role involves active participation in the boarding lifestyle, including morning, evening, overnight, and weekend responsibilities. Your family will be warmly welcomed as part of our onsite boarding community.
The successful candidate will be appointed in a permanent full-time teaching position, with a fixed-term Deputy Housemaster appointment (initially three years, with potential for renewal) and a 2.5/25 class time allowance per week for their Boarding role. The boarding team is collegial and well supported by the Housemaster, another Deputy Housemaster, and Boarding support staff, as well as our Associate Headmaster - School Operations and the Head of Boarding Operations.
St Paul's is well-resourced, with small class sizes and highly motivated, self-disciplined students. Staff enjoy a range of benefits, including daily cooked lunches, generous leave provisions, and a supportive, collegial environment. A competitive remuneration package is on offer, comprising the teacher salary scale plus a St Paul's Allowance of $5,022 per annum. An annual bonus round also rewards staff involvement in our co-curricular programme and academic scholarship.
At St Paul's, our vision is Cultivating Educated Contributors, and our mission is Inspiring Minds, Building Character, Shaping Futures. Alongside academic excellence, we are committed to being New Zealand's premier boarding school, offering outstanding facilities, expert pastoral care, and diverse engagement opportunities for students. We are looking for staff who will embrace our vision and mission and work with us to achieve our strategic goals.
