Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Cellar Hand who is passionate and keen to develop knowledge about organic wine making and has a genuine interest in the production of fine wine.

The ideal candidate will be practically minded with a hands-on approach, a positive thinker who thrives on achieving the best winemaking practices in line with the company culture, values, and goals.

This role reports to the Assistant Winemaker.

Key responsibilities (not limited to):

• Be passionate about the organic production of fine wine.
• Carry out winemaking tasks such as press operation, additions, transfers, blends, filtering, dispatches and dealing with lees & marc.
• Be proactive and innovative in the development of sustainable practices in the winery and the wider company.
• Assist the Winemakers to ensure good maintenance of all equipment and machinery to enable safe and efficient operations and mitigate breakages.
• Assist Winemakers with training and supervision of vintage workers.
• Be Health and Safety focused through open communication, continual implementation, co-ordination and improvement of the company's Health & Safety policies and procedures.
• Assist the Winemakers to maintain robust and efficient record keeping and ensure administrative tasks are completed in a timely manner.
• Assist the Winemakers to ensure compliance with all current and future vineyard certifications (WSMP, BioGro, SWNZ, etc.).
• Assist with wine events, hosting guests

Profile, skills and experience:

• WSET level 2 or higher qualification will be a strong advantage.
• Passionate and keen to develop knowledge about organic and biodynamics. Extensive knowledge in these practices will be advantageous, but not a prerequisite.
• Minimum of 3 years' experience working with wine.
• Minimum of 5 vintages experience working in winemaking.
• Experience with Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Sparkling wines.
• Experience with labelling, packaging.
• Experience in event management and showcasing wines to customers in a retail setting would be a strong advantage.
• Strong leadership and people management skills.
• Computer literate, excellent planning and organisational skills with attention to detail.

Location

Work location will be at the Clos Henri Winery, 639 State Highway 63, Renwick, Marlborough, NZ.

Specifics of Role

· Full-time permanent

· Hours and days of work, usually 7:30 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week

· Wage range = $30 to $32 per hour based on experience
