District Advice Officer

As a District Advice Officer, you will be providing clear and accurate property advice, maps and information on natural hazards and Horizons' One Plan requirements to the public and Territorial Authorities, supporting informed decision-making on proposed land developments that include building consents, subdivisions, and other land use consents or property related assessments.
A key focus of this role is to support the provision of natural hazard information to Territorial Authorities for inclusion in Land Information Memorandum (LIMs) as required by the new legislative requirements.
You will assist in collaborating with Territorial Authorities and Horizons Policy team on urban growth planning, proposed District Plan changes and other statutory requirements.
In addition, you will assist Horizons' with the responsibilities under the Building Act 2004 by supporting the regulation of large dam construction and the implementation of the Building (Dam Safety) Regulations 2022.
About youAre you a people person with strong communication and relationship-building skills? Do you have some experience either in natural hazard provisions/management, LIMs, Resource Management Act and/or the Building Act? Are you customer focussed? Are you good at interpreting maps and have proficient geospatial capabilities?
The successful applicant will have experience with:
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or other map viewing systems.
- Ability to interpret, display and communicate geospatial data and information.
- Ideally also have the ability to manage and maintain service portals for customer requests.
This exciting and challenging role works across Horizons internal groups and the Region's Territorial Authorities as well as directly with members of the public.
The role plays an important part in supporting informed property related decisions on the impacts of natural hazards and climate change, helping our region's communities to be more resilient to these challenges.
