Grain Trading Manager

As a key member of our team, you'll lead our grain trading operations across New Zealand with a sharp commercial focus, driving effective, profitable, and strategically sound trading practices. Your commercial insight and industry expertise will strengthen client relationships, identify and capitalise on market opportunities, and contribute significantly to the growth of Luisetti Seeds' grain business.

What You'll Do:

Grain Trading & Market Management:

  • Lead the marketing and management of grain trading activities nationwide.
  • Source and secure grain supplies, negotiating effectively with farmers, feed manufacturers, millers, and traders.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of industry trends, market conditions, and opportunities.
  • Develop and implement trading strategies aligned with company objectives.
  • Manage risk through prudent trading positions, ensuring profitability and compliance with trading parameters.

Client Relationships & Business Development:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and industry contacts.
  • Provide expert advice and support to clients, understanding their needs and offering tailored solutions.
  • Identify new trading opportunities and market expansion initiatives.

Administration & Reporting:

  • Keep accurate, up-to-date records of all transactions, contracts, and market positions.
  • Maintain a comprehensive 'live' trading spreadsheet, tracking exposure and positions.
  • Ensure timely completion of contracts, documents, and compliance paperwork.

Team & Industry Engagement:

  • Collaborate closely with the broader Luisetti Seeds team including production, agronomy, and office support.
  • Represent Luisetti Seeds at industry functions, networking regularly to enhance our profile.
  • Support team members with knowledge sharing and strategic insights.

What You Bring:

  • 7+ years of proven grain trading experience with a strong history of delivering profitable results.
  • Deep industry knowledge, including familiarity with feed markets, arable, and livestock farming systems.
  • Strong negotiation, strategic thinking, and communication skills.
  • Ability to analyse market data to identify opportunities and risks, making sound commercial decisions.
  • Experience managing risk and trading parameters effectively.
  • A tertiary qualification in Agribusiness, Economics, Logistics, or a related field is preferred.
  • Self-motivated with a focus on achieving results, highly organised, and a keen eye for detail.
  • An open-minded, commercial mindset.
