Northern Southland Transport is part of Trojan Holdings Ltd, which is a family owned and operated business. We have extensive interests in transport, tourism and commercial property throughout Central Otago and Southland.

We are looking for an experienced Health and Safety Manager to support our managers and help drive continued improvement in our safety culture. This is a great opportunity for an energetic safety professional, especially if they have a passion for the transport industry.

Key responsibilities would include;

  • Working alongside operational teams to ensure effective risk management processes are in place, including the development of risk mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure regular risk assessments are conducted and review incident reports and near-miss events to identify areas of improvement.
  • Ensure delivery of H&S training programs to ensure employees understand their roles and responsibilities in maintaining a safe workplace.
  • Ensure management and staff are regularly updated on H&S best practices, emerging risks, and relevant legal requirements.
  • Evaluate and implement the findings from audits, inspections, and safety performance reviews.
  • Promote employee engagement and involvement in H&S initiatives to encourage ownership and accountability.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to health, safety, and well-being outcomes and report findings to management.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement in H&S management through innovation and adopting new safety initiatives.

This is a hands-on role and would suit someone who enjoys being out in the field at the coalface. Our ideal candidate will have experience in the transport industry, and an affinity with the rural sector is a must. You will be a great team player, fit and healthy, and with a high level of pride in what you do.

Ideally the role would be based in Southland although we are open to applications from candidates who may prefer to live in Cromwell or Queenstown areas.
