Are you passionate about creating safe, healthy workplaces where people can thrive?

Do you enjoy improving systems, supporting leaders, and building practical solutions that make a real difference?

This is a rare opportunity to take on a meaningful part-time role supporting the wellbeing of kaimahi across the MidCentral region.

About THINK Hauora:

At THINK Hauora we are committed to enhancing health and wellbeing within all communities, including Māori, Pasifika, Youth, and LGBTQIA+ communities, across our rohe. We value diversity and inclusivity, and we warmly welcome individuals from all walks of life to contribute to our vision of Connecting Communities for Wellbeing.

THINK Hauora is committed to honouring Te Tīriti o Waitangi to improve Hauora outcomes for the communities we serve.

About the Opportunity:

As our Health & Safety Lead, you will provide specialist operational leadership, coordination, and advice to support a safe, healthy, and resilient workplace. Working closely with our People & Culture Manager, you will:

  • Maintain and strengthen our health & safety systems and processes
  • Support leaders and staff to identify, manage, and reduce workplace risks
  • Coordinate incident reporting, investigations, and follow-up actions
  • Lead contractor H&S processes and joint PCBU responsibilities
  • Deliver and support H&S training in partnership with our Learning & Development Lead
  • Promote open communication, engagement, and worker participation in health & safety
  • Monitor performance, maintain the H&S risk register, and prepare governance reporting
  • Support a positive, proactive safety culture across the organisation
  • Embed Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally safe practice into all aspects of health & safety

This is a hands-on, highly collaborative role where you'll work with teams right across the organisation—from clinical and network services to community practices and corporate staff.

Who We're Looking For:

  • Strong knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015
  • 3–5 years' experience in health & safety, risk, or compliance roles
  • Experience with incident investigations and risk management
  • Clear and confident communication skills
  • Ability to engage and influence at all levels
  • Strong organisation and follow-through
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach
  • Commitment to cultural responsiveness, equity, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Comfort working with diverse communities and stakeholders
  • A full, clean NZ driver licence

Formal H&S qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH, NZQA) and experience in the health or community sector are desirable but not essential.

Why Join Us?

  • Flexible part-time role (20 hours per week)
  • A genuinely values-driven organisation
  • Opportunity to influence health & safety practice across the primary care sector
  • Supportive People & Culture team
  • Make an impact on the wellbeing of staff and communities
  • Work in a team where your ideas and initiative are welcomed
  • Contribute to Pae Ora outcomes and meaningful system change

At THINK Hauora you will work alongside a diverse team of professionals who are passionate about delivering primary health care to our region and making a positive impact to our communities.
