About the Role:

As an Activities Coordinator, you will play a key role in enhancing the quality of life for our residents through meaningful, holistic activities that support their physical, emotional, and social wellbeing. You'll take a resident-centred approach, promoting independence, respecting privacy, and ensuring each individual's dignity, safety, interests, and abilities are always valued and supported.

  • This is a full-time, permanent position.
  • The hours of work is 30 to 40 hours per week.
  • The hourly pay rate ranges from $23.50 to $28.25, depending on skills and qualifications, and is aligned with the Government's Pay Equity and Qualification Equivalencies for Care and Support Workers.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Work closely with the Diversional Therapist in planning, implementing and evaluating individual and group activities.
  • Develop individual residents' activities care plans and evaluate at least six monthly or when needed with input of resident or relatives.
  • Ensure care plans are signed off by the Registered Nurse if not signed off by the Diversional Therapist.
  • Adapt or change program according to results of evaluations.
  • Implement a comprehensive therapy program for our residents reflecting their needs.
  • Ensure a high standard of updated documentation is maintained.
  • Inform other staff and relatives about activity program.
  • In-service sessions provide opportunity to share goals and purpose of activities and implement new ideas in response to helpful feedback and suggestions.
  • Ensure resident safety during outings by carrying a first aid kit, communication device, and identification at all times.
  • Respond appropriately to incidents, providing basic first aid for minor injuries and completing an incident report upon return.
  • Accurately record relevant information in resident notes, care plans, and other documentation systems to ensure continuity of care and effective communication among the team.
  • Participate in annual performance appraisals

Goals

  • Create opportunities for residents to rekindle past interests, discover new ones, and enjoy meaningful social connections.

Weekly routine

  • Follow the activities calendar to deliver daily exercises, weekly bus and shopping trips, and other scheduled events.
  • Update and adapt the programme based on resident feedback and activities surveys.

About You:

We're looking for individuals who bring:

  • A minimum of two (2) years' experience in aged care, disability support, or a relevant healthcare setting, or a Certificate or Diploma in Diversional Therapy, Recreation Therapy, Health & Wellbeing (Level 4 NZQA) or working towards equivalent on the New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework (NZQCF). Demonstrated cultural competency may be required.
  • Enthusiastic and able to stimulate residents to promote and maintain their independence.
  • A caring, considerate attitude and responsiveness to the care of the Elderly.
  • Good organisation and prioritising skills.
  • Honesty, integrity, conscientiousness and industriousness.
  • Awareness of ways to optimise independence of residents.
  • Understanding of Residents rights, Advocacy and privacy.
  • A full driver's licence (advantageous but not required).
  • Must be available for various shifts, with flexibility on a rotating roster.
  • Basic computer proficiency, as we use electronic medication management, resident care systems, HR platforms, and scheduling tools.
  • A strong command of English and excellent communication skills.
  • Good physical and mental fitness, with the ability to pass a drug test and police check.
  • A positive, adaptable mindset and willingness to embrace change.
  • Professionalism, personability, and a high standard of hygiene.
