Located on the edge of the city, this well established cafe is known for its seasonal, produce-driven menus and warm, welcoming vibe supported by stellar Front of House and leadership teams.

About the role

As Senior Cafe Chef, you'll work closely with our Head Chef to lead day-to-day kitchen operations, manage service flow, and bring fresh ideas to the table. This is a full time, hands-on role ideal for someone who thrives in a busy, creative environment and enjoys working as part of a tight-knit team. This role will include early starts and/or weekend day shifts.

What you'll be doing

  • Oversee the kitchen in the absence of the Head Chef.
  • Prepare and cook a wide range of café-style dishes to a consistently high standard
  • Lead and inspire the kitchen team to maintain high standards in food quality and presentation.
  • Assist with menu development, seasonal planning, and dish costing.
  • Ensure food safety, hygiene, and health and safety standards are always upheld.
  • Manage stock, ordering, and inventory control to support efficient service.
  • Contribute to training and mentoring junior team members.
  • Collaborate with FOH to ensure smooth service and a positive team culture.
  • Foster a positive and productive team environment in the kitchen

What we're looking for

  • NZ Certificate in Cookery (Level 4) or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years' experience in a senior kitchen role.
  • Proven skills in kitchen organisation, time management, and team leadership.
  • Confidence in costing, ordering, and kitchen admin systems
  • Creativity, initiative, and a strong passion for food and hospitality, including trends
  • A calm, solutions-focused approach during busy services.
  • Excellent time management and multitasking skills
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a team
  • Thorough understanding of food safety and hygiene regulations
