Te Tahi Youth is a not-for-profit organisation providing free medical, social, wellbeing, and developmental support services for young people aged 10–24 across Ōtautahi. We are committed to delivering accessible, youth-led, culturally responsive services that uphold mana, empower whānau, and build strong foundations for the future.

This role forms part of our contribution to the Christchurch East Central Attendance Service (ECAS), a collaborative, community-based service supporting tamariki, rangatahi, and whānau to overcome barriers to regular school attendance. You'll be joining a supportive, kaupapa-driven team focused on meaningful, lasting outcomes.

He Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Attendance Navigator to join our Youth Development Team in a permanent full-time role.

As an Attendance Navigator, you will work alongside tamariki, rangatahi, whānau, schools, and community partners to understand and address the underlying factors impacting school attendance. Your mahi will include:

  • Youth- and whānau-led case management
  • Identifying and addressing barriers to school engagement
  • Developing attendance and wellbeing plans
  • Providing advocacy, mentoring, and practical support
  • Building strong connections with schools, whānau, and ECAS partners
  • Maintaining high-quality case notes and documentation
  • Supporting whānau-led solutions grounded in kaupapa Māori values
  • Working collaboratively across Te Tahi Youth and the wider ECAS collective

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about relational, strengths-based mahi and is committed to supporting rangatahi to thrive in education and life.

He Kōrero mōu – About You

We are looking for someone with:

Essential:

  • A passion for supporting tamariki, rangatahi, and whānau
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills
  • Understanding of trauma, adversity, disability, or mental health impacts on education
  • Culturally responsive practice that upholds Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong documentation and caseload management skills
  • Comfort working across schools, homes, marae, and community spaces
  • Full NZ Driver Licence

Desirable:

  • Qualification in social services, youth work, education, human services, or equivalent (Level 6+ preferred)
  • Experience working alongside tamariki, rangatahi, or whānau
  • Exposure to kaupapa Māori practice, Positive Youth Development, restorative or trauma-informed approaches
