This is an exciting opportunity for you to be part of our Participation Development team.

About the Role

The Participation Development team is responsible for over 10,000 games of rugby each year, catering to over 21k participants across our Club and School environment.  We primarily focus on stakeholder-driven initiatives that deliver exciting rugby experiences and support our communities in influencing long-term and sustainable changes, resulting in 'More People Growing Rugby' across Auckland.

Reporting to the Club Rugby Manager, you will be responsible for developing the capability of our Club workforce. Leading a small team of Club Rugby Partners to ensure our clubs can deliver the best sporting experience, you will play a pivotal role in developing the next generation of rugby administrators ensuring key sustainability objectives are achieved across all clubs.

What you will do:

  • Provide leadership and guidance to Club Rugby Partners, fostering innovation and ownership.
  • Develop and implement the Club Capability Framework to build strong, sustainable clubs.
  • Lead annual reviews of club systems and processes using the Club Health Assessment tool.
  • Deliver tailored support initiatives in governance, finance, marketing, facilities, and people development.
  • Facilitate governance forums and provide thought leadership across COD and JRC.
  • Promote positive stories and strengthen club-community connections.

Given this role is working alongside our clubs and dealing with many volunteers, irregular hours and weekend work should be expected.  As a result of this, we instill a high level of trust and work on flexitime, we are not a typical Monday-Friday 9am-5pm business.

To be successful in this role you will ideally have:

  • Qualification in either Management, Sport Development or Sport & Recreation
  • 5 years' experience in a similar role
  • Understanding of club and school rugby environment would be advantageous
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with a diverse stakeholder group
  • Understanding of strategic insights and business planning.
