The Opportunity | Te Kōwhiringa
We're looking for a motivated Contract Engineer to join our Auckland team. You'll be responsible for supporting the Contract Manager in overseeing on-site construction activities, ensuring works are completed to the highest standards of quality, safety, and environmental performance.

This role combines technical expertise, financial awareness, and people management—perfect for someone looking to advance their engineering career in a hands-on, fast-paced environment.

What you'll be doing:

• Monitor on-site construction to ensure compliance with specifications, safety, and quality standards.

• Assist with project planning, methodology, budgeting, and tender documentation.

• Track material procurement, deliveries, and subcontractor performance.

• Support financial management through cost tracking, quantity reporting, and variation control.

• Maintain accurate site diaries and project documentation.

• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.

• Promote a proactive safety culture and contribute to Downer's Zero Harm initiatives.

Important Skills | Nga Pūkenga Matua

• A tertiary qualification (or equivalent experience) in engineering, construction, or business management.

• 2+ years' experience in construction or civil engineering.

• Strong understanding of quality assurance, safety compliance, and project management principles.

• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

• A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with strong attention to detail.
