The People & Payroll Specialist plays a key role in supporting the organisation's people, payroll, and operational functions. Reporting to the Head of Finance & Business Development, this position is responsible for delivering effective human resource support, ensuring accurate payroll management, and contributing to a safe, compliant, and productive workplace.

Key Responsibilities

  • Human Resources Leadership – Provide HR advice and support across operational areas, manage employment contracts, oversee training and staff development, and handle employee relations and disciplinary processes.

  • Payroll Management – Administer payroll systems, process weekly time and attendance records, manage PAYE, KiwiSaver, and deductions, and respond to staff payroll queries.

  • Operational Support – Collaborate with production, logistics, and management teams to ensure smooth operation of the packhouse and cool stores through effective resource management.

  • Teamwork & Culture – Foster a positive, safe, and collaborative work environment, while identifying opportunities for improvement.

  • Flexibility – Undertake additional duties as required, ensuring adherence to company standards and procedures.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Strong background in HR and payroll administration

  • Knowledge of New Zealand employment law, PAYE, and KiwiSaver requirements

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and manage competing priorities

  • Commitment to health, safety, and food safety compliance
