We are now commencing a search for a newly created Head of Risk to lead the risk function and help shape the future of how we think about risk.

This role offers a chance to embed a mindset where risk is woven into the fabric of everyday decision-making. With the strong endorsement of a highly engaged CEO, CRO/GC and BARC Chair, the Head of Risk will have both the authority and the backing to build a resilient framework that drives long-term value and confidence across the organisation.

The Head of Risk will:

  • Lead the Line 2 risk function and work closely with Line 1 risk owners in the business and with the Head of Compliance and Head of Internal Audit, across NZ and Australia, spanning investment, operational, conduct, and emerging risks.
  • Drive a pragmatic, outcomes-focused risk culture uplift – moving risk beyond registers and into day-to-day decision-making.
  • Partner with senior leaders and the Board, providing independent insight, challenge and support.
  • Embed contemporary risk practices: agile, integrated, and proactive – with continual improvement at the core.
  • Lead and coach a high-performing team, while still rolling up your sleeves.
  • Oversee frameworks, policies, and reporting that meet regulatory obligations (FMA, ASIC, APRA) and provide transparency across the business.

What we're looking for

  • 10+ years' experience in risk leadership, ideally in asset management, banking, or financial services.
  • Proven ability to influence at Board and executive level, with strong communications and presence.
  • Practical, real-world experience embedding risk frameworks and culture.
  • A proactive mindset: you look for improvement, set the business up to succeed, and bring people with you.
  • The ability to lead through complexity.
