About the role:

The purpose of the Risk Lead is to collaborate with the CRLO and Head of Risk to oversee the effective application and operation of SCTI's Risk Management Framework in its New Zealand and Australia operations, and to coordinate internal audit functions with audit partners in each jurisdiction.

Key responsibilities:

  • Management and maturing of fit-for-purpose risk management framework, programme, policies, processes, guidelines and tools for both New Zealand and Australian operations that are aligned to organisational strategic objectives, risk appetite and meet the requirements of regulatory prudential standards in both New Zealand (RBNZ) and Australia (APRA).
  • Reviewing and obtaining assurance over risk management practices, controls, behaviours and conduct across all business units.
  • Maintaining visibility over key risk performance indicators, providing expert advice and positively influencing risk maturity uplift where needed.
  • Retaining oversight over organisational key risks, and enterprise risks, to ensure they remain in appetite and appropriate and effective mitigants are communicated and in place.
  • Ensuring alignment between change risk capability, risk appetite and change management processes to reasonably minimise negative unintended consequences arising from programmes of work.
  • Liaison and support to the line 1 Risk team in effective management of operational risk.
  • Leads and supports a positive risk culture that supports good conduct and business resilience by embodying and role-modelling healthy risk practices and habits, supporting the delivery of fair customer outcomes and championing good conduct.

About you

You're an experienced risk professional with a strong understanding of enterprise risk management and governance frameworks. With a background in financial services or a similarly regulated environment, you bring a structured and analytical approach to identifying, assessing, and managing risk across complex operations.

You will have excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and a proactive mindset. You're comfortable working in a fast paced environment balancing strategic oversight with hands-on delivery, ensuring risk practices are both effective and embedded in day-to-day operations.

Experience Required

  • Minimum 10 years' experience gained in financial services or other commercial organisations in New Zealand, Australia, UK or other comparable common law jurisdiction.
  • Strong risk and audit management experience in regulation and the management of risk in a regulated industry, together with good working knowledge of, and experience in, at least two of the following areas:
  • a: Australian prudential regulations (APRA) relating to risk management, governance, and/or financial resilience; b:New Zealand insurance prudential supervision and licensing (RBNZ), and consumer protection and conduct regulation (FMA)
  • c: UK prudential regulation (PRA), authorisations and conduct regulation (FCA)

Desirable

  • Strong working knowledge and experience in APRA's risk management prudential standards and guidelines, and ASIC's regulation and oversight of AFS Licensees as they apply to insurers.

  • Experience working in a compliance or risk role in an Australian insurance company or overseas insurance company operating in Australia.
