We are seeking an exceptional academic leader to serve as Aukaha – Hauora, responsible for advancing excellence in Indigenous hauora education grounded in te ao Māori perspectives and mātauranga Māori frameworks.
This is a pivotal senior academic leadership position that will shape the strategic direction and academic excellence of our Hauora Whare. You will lead the development and delivery of programmes that privilege Indigenous understandings of wellbeing, including the Ngā Poutoko Whakarara Oranga - Bachelor of Bicultural Social Work degree and the Kaitiakitanga – Postgraduate Diploma in Bicultural Professional Supervision.
As Aukaha, you will provide visionary academic leadership that centres hauora Māori – the holistic wellbeing of whānau, hapū, iwi and te taiao. You will advance research excellence that honours mātauranga Māori and positions Indigenous knowledge systems as foundational to hauora scholarship and practice.

This position is permanent, fulltime (37.5 hours per week), based at any one of our sites in Aotearoa.
Mōu | About you
We seek a distinguished academic leader with deep expertise in Indigenous hauora and demonstrated excellence in research, teaching, and cultural leadership within te ao Māori frameworks You will have:
- PhD in a relevant field related to your portfolio of responsibility or equivalent practice based experience in the field, academic leadership experience and a strong rangahau portfolio
- 10+ years' experience in academic leadership in tertiary education and/or tertiary level rangahau environment
- 10+ years' teaching experience in a tertiary education environment
- A demonstrated commitment to, and performance in quality tertiary research led and informed teaching
- Be a respected academic leader with a record of academic achievement suitable for appointment
- Distinguished research portfolio demonstrating sustained excellence in Indigenous hauora research, with significant peer-reviewed publications, research leadership, and national/international recognition in the field
- Proven track record securing competitive research funding and external research income to support Indigenous hauora research programmes
- Demonstrated ability to develop significant connections and partnerships with key stakeholders including hapori, iwi and hapū, industry, government and/or business.
As a kaupapa Māori organisation, your willingness to participate in cultural activities and develop an understanding of Āhuatanga Māori (values, culture and tikanga) will be key.
