About the Role

The Advisor for Hauora Māori Practice and Improvement supports the Hauora Māori Practice and Improvement team in delivering its portfolios under the guidance of Senior and Principal Advisors. This role involves contributing to discussions with proposed solutions, leading and championing Pae Ora excellence in care, and promoting values-based leadership as part of the national Hauora Māori Service clinical team. Key responsibilities include improvement programmes, clinical governance support, quality and safety, system and service reviews, cultural safety and competency, system change, and models of care

About the Team/Service

As the Hauora Māori Service of Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora (Health NZ) our core role is to ensure New Zealanders have better and more timely access to health care. The Clinical team provides Māori clinical leadership and fosters strong collaboration with Hauora Māori Chief Clinical Officers, National Directors, and partners to drive health gain and development. Their role includes planning, oversight, and professional advice to enable a whole-of-system approach for high-quality care for Māori.

About you

You bring expertise in quality improvement frameworks, system processes, and clinical governance. Your strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application in health ensures culturally responsive practice aligned with Māori health aspirations. Exceptional relationship-building skills, combined with experience in leading cross-sector initiatives, shaping policy, and driving system improvements, are essential for success in this role.

You will have:

  • Experience in advisory or a related field with at least 2-3 years of experience in a similar role within a large organisation
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft key governance documents and materials
  • Knowledge and practical experience in applying Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches
  • Proven analytical skills and problem-solving skills, with experience in the health sector considered an advantage
