Community Facilitator - Te Ara Poutūara

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Community Facilitator to join our supportive and dedicated team in Whanganui.

We're looking for a passionate and resilient facilitator who can bring the Enabling Good Lives (EGL) vision to life, someone who can walk alongside disabled people and their whānau, supporting them to design support packages that are genuinely tailored to their goals, culture, and circumstances.

This role requires creativity, empathy, and cultural competency. You'll need to be comfortable thinking outside the box, asking the right questions, and drawing on your judgement to build a clear picture of what matters most to the people you're supporting. An understanding of tikanga, Te Ao Māori, and Pasifika worldviews is essential, along with a genuine commitment to inclusive, person-led practice.

You'll be managing a full and dynamic caseload, so resilience and strong time management are key. Equally important are your communication skills, whether you're having a sensitive conversation with a family member, writing a detailed support plan, or entering data into a system, you'll bring clarity, professionalism, and compassion.

You'll be confident working with Microsoft programs and databases and ideally bring either a deep professional understanding of disability support or lived experience as a disabled person or whānau member.

This is a permanent part-time role working 30 hours per week across five days based in Whanganui.

As a Community Facilitator for Your Way | Kia Roha the successful applicant will:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships within the wider disability community, and external networks.

  • Provide information and connect disabled people and tangata whaikaha Māori community and financial supports.
  • Identify gaps in services, work with leaders to develop new community programmes.
  • Work alongside other Your Way | Kia Roha service lines, to build and maintain trusting, effective relationships with iwi, hapū, Māori and Pasifika providers
  • Solve complex situations and develop funding / support packages that provide great outcomes.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A strong understanding of the Enabling Good Lives vision and principles, and how to apply these in practice.
  • The ability to design creative, person-led support packages that reflect the unique needs and goals of each individual.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including empathy and the ability to build trust and connection.
  • Confidence in asking open-ended questions and using sound judgement to explore and clarify support needs.
  • Cultural competency, including understanding of tikanga, Te Ao Māori, and Pasifika perspectives.
  • High levels of resilience, adaptability, and time management to support a full caseload in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage diplomatically across a wide range of people and situations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including report writing and plan development.
  • Competence with IT systems, databases, and Microsoft Office tools.
  • A deep understanding of disability—either professionally or through lived or whānau experience.

What's on offer:

  • Supportive and Inclusive environment, we value your opinion
  • Opportunities for professional development
  • Employee assistance programme available for staff
  • Take a day of leave for your Birthday
  • Staff discount card for use at a range of retailers
