Te Pae Oranga (TPO) is a community-based restorative justice initiative that provides an alternative pathway for low-to-medium-level offenders. The initiative is a collaboration between Iwi, Community and the Police, to support the person to address the issues that they are facing. The offender will need to take responsibility for their actions before developing a plan that can help them work towards positive change.
Te Pae Oranga involves a panel of Iwi and Community representatives who hear from the offender and at times the victim, before considering their plan and how this will help address their offending and to move forward. Panels will be run in the community across the rohe of Te Ranga Tupua.
Te Oranganui Trust are coordinating this kaupapa, while working with the Police and a range of other Iwi/Māori organisations who will take responsibility to support those that come from their part of the rohe.
We are looking for a Kaitūruki (Facilitator) Te Pae Oranga to lead the panels, to drive the coordinating, recruiting, training and facilitate the panel sessions, and to be the link between the organisations who will support the person, the police and the panels.

- Liaise, co-ordinate & facilitate scheduled TPO Panel sessions across the Te Ranga Tupua rohe
- Act as the first point of contact for all Panel Members
- Take responsibility for setting up each Panel conference, including liaising with Panel Members and managing the roster system
- Confirm venues and ensure all venues are set up in advance of scheduled start times, with appropriate resources and equipment inclusive of all logistics
- Link the whānau member and their support to the Panel
- Coordinate any liaison required with Iwi/Community organisations
- Ensure that there is follow through of the recommendations from the panel
- Provide administration support
The Kaitūruki– Te Pae Oranga is a key role that will minute and record all panel sessions and any agreements from the respective conferences.
The Kaitūruki – Te Pae Oranga will maintain strong functional relationships across key members of the Te Pae Oranga team, inclusive of Whānau, Hāpu, Iwi, Police, other agencies, NGO's and Community Organisations. This will require highly adaptive communication skills, as daily communication will occur across Panel Members, Police and wider networks, and will involve careful planning and structured scheduling.
The Kaitūruki will also be a part of the Te Oranganui Team and will work collaboratively with various kaupapa in the organisation to support their work.
