An exciting opportunity for a passionate and hands-on Chef and Café Superstar who is ready for a new challenge.

Monday to Friday (5.30am – 2.00pm)

We have a vacancy for a dynamic Chef with strong cabinet food repertoire to manage the kitchen and run our in-house cafe located at Griffins Snacks in Wiri; manufacturer of many iconic kiwi potato crisps and corn snacks. This is a sole charge position catering for up to 200 production and distribution staff on a daily basis.

You will be a hands-on chef actively involved in the creating, cooking, and presentation of food with an international cuisine flare, as well as the day-to-day running of the café providing a breakfast service between 6.30am am, and meal of the day for lunch from 10.30am – 1.30pm. The café cold cabinet will be filled with a variety of daily salads, wraps, paninis, modern style sandwiches, vegetarian stacks. The level of expectation we are searching for is an offering similar to a modern streetside café. You will also be responsible for maintenance a free coffee/tea section and vending machines.

Open Monday to Friday, you must have great organisational, communication, and customer service skills to manage and oversee the café. Please be aware we do close up during Christmas holidays.

Your ability to control food costs within budget, as well as your creativity and eye for presentation will see you on the road to success in this position. You will be responsible for making our customers smile and keeping them coming back for more.

This position requires a chef with a minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience, who can:

  • Prepare, cook, and serve a variety of cuisines
  • Prepare and display great cabinet food.
  • Monitor quality of food at all stages of preparation and presentation
  • Create menus to cater for a varied clientele and dietary requirements
  • Cater to in-house functions from time to time.
  • Manage food and labour costs within budget
  • Implement New Zealand Food Control and Safety regulations
  • Maintain a clean, tidy, safe and hazard free environment
  • Demonstrate great communication skills and moderate computer literacy
  • Show a flexible, can-do, committed attitude
