We're seeking a Level Designer to work on Path of Exile. Someone to create highly replayable levels, combining hand-crafted assets and procedural generation techniques. You will collaborate with developers across a wide variety of disciplines to build robust gameplay spaces that exude our games' aesthetics.

To this end we are looking for an avid gamer with a good understanding of Path of Exile and its themes.

Location: On-site in Henderson, Auckland, New Zealand

*Relocation assistance (for the right candidate if needed)

 Full-time position - 40 hours a week

This position includes the following duties:

  • Design and create fun, replayable levels that facilitate Action RPG gameplay with a dark fantasy aesthetic
  • Set-dress areas, delivering on Path of Exile's aesthetics while balancing gameplay and performance requirements
  • Create greyboxes and prototypes for new 3D terrain elements that other departments can use to execute your designs
  • Devise clever ways to re-use existing assets to create new environments
  • Integrate the needs of other disciplines into your designs, and implement their content into your levels (new art, gameplay elements, story concepts, etc)
  • Quickly learn to master our internal tools and procedural techniques
  • Conduct gameplay evaluations with the team, providing constructive feedback and suggestions to help fine-tune the game
  • Locate and fix bugs in both your own and your colleagues' work

We are seeking someone with:

  • At least three years experience in level design experience in games OR a relevant qualification in Game Development, IT, design or similar.
  • A passion for games, and the craft that goes into them
  • Experience using Maya or a similar 3D tool
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
  • An ability to work within a team environment

A portfolio and/or reel demonstrating relevant artistic skills is required.

You must be willing to complete an art/design test if requested to do so.

Pluses:

  • Experience with Path of Exile specifically or interest in dark fantasy themes, Action RPGs, top-down/isometric games
