At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga | Ministry of Education, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whānau.
We help shape the policies, settings and performance of the education system for early learning, schooling and tertiary. We do this by building relationships and understanding the needs of those who receive our services.

Mātau rōpū ake | About our group and team
Te Mahau | Te Pae Aronui (Operations & Integration). We use information, insights and service design functions to help the three Te Mahau frontline groups design and deliver services for our sector. We service and support the frontline groups and play an integration role between these enabling functions and our frontline services. Our group provides nationally consistent service design, practice guidance and systems to support the integrated frontline teams led by Directors of Education providing flexible and responsive services.
We deliver national resourcing functions, including inclusive learning support, and national regulatory functions.
The Service Support team is responsible for oversight of a range of programmes and services that support ākonga across Aotearoa New Zealand to be engaged and achieve in education. The team has a strong commitment to giving practical effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Ka Hikitia - Ka Hāpaitia and, promoting positive and sustainable change for ākonga Māori.
Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced education professional to join our Service Support team. The Implementation Lead works collaboratively with internal and external colleagues and stakeholders to lead significant change in service design of initiatives with a particular focus on Te Ao Māori concepts, as well as the successful transition of these initiatives to front line services for implementation and delivery.
The Implementation Lead works across Te Mahau and the Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L) suite of initiatives, supporting meaningful reflection of te Ao Māori concepts and connections between Iwi, Hapū, whānau and school communities, to enable delivery of PB4L initiatives in a more meaningful way for ākonga and whānau Māori.
Providing strategic advice and leadership, the Implementation Lead helps the organisation accelerate Māori educational achievement, seeking equitable outcomes and the promotion of Māori identity, language, and culture. They are responsible for the development of resources to support practice improvement. They work across the Ministry and with other organisations to support the development of evidence based best practice and future workforce development.
The salary band for this role is $110,923 - $135,573 depending on skills and experience.

To be successful in the role, you will be working collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders, including developing relationships at senior levels.
Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent level of practical experience is required along with developed networks, credibility, and relationships with Iwi, Hapū and Māori organisations, and communities.
Your background should include experience in the service delivery, working with diverse communities and the ability to demonstrate the following experience:

- Skilled in leading and motivating others, able to challenge, facilitate, mentor, and coach to increase capability for excellence, and where necessary, change
- Ability to facilitate and provide, where required, appropriate cultural support to ensure tikanga Māori is respected and maintained when engaging with Iwi and Māori
- Ability to use a strengths-based approach across the Ministry using highly advanced influencing
