**About the Role**
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) based at Christchurch Women - s Hospital has an exciting opportunity for senior NICU nurse to step into a Clinical Nurse Specialist role as a Speciality Nurse - Lactation.
In this role you will provide advice regarding lactation, breast feeding and infant feeding to staff mothers, and families of the Neonatal Service Women - s and Children - s Health (WCH) and ensuring mothers receive consistent and appropriate advice. Both in regards to the initiation, establishment and maintenance of breastfeeding as well as providing the advice and support required for non -breastfeeding mothers.
**About the Service**
The Neonatal Service at Christchurch Women - s Hospital is an acute service providing secondary/tertiary care to newborn babies born prematurely or with surgical, congenital and medical complications following birth. We are a 44 bedded unit compromised of 12 intensive care and 32 special care cot - s and our catchment area is approximately 20,000 square kilometres of the South Island.
**About you**
- Registered Nurse with neonatal experience
- Lactation Consultant qualification essential
- Recent experience of caring for preterm and sick newborn infants
- Relevant recent proven experience in breastfeeding management and education and specialised knowledge of lactation
- Experience in provision of education programmes
- Demonstrated clinical teaching skills
- Commitment to breastfeeding, BFHI and the WHO International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes and subsequent, relevant WHA resolutions
- Proven consultation, communication, computer literacy and liaison skills
- Can work well within a multidisciplinary team
- An understanding of cultural issues as they relate to women - s health
- Expected to continue their personal and professional development
- Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand with a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC)
