The **Tax Strategy** team is an economic policy team that works with Inland Revenue to advise Ministers on significant tax policy issues and on Inland Revenue expenditure and performance. We focus on the strategic economic issues in the tax system, such as the relationship between the tax system, economic growth and fiscal sustainability; the role of the tax system in delivering the government's wider distributional and wellbeing objectives; and delivering on key Ministerial priorities such as the integrity of the tax system and international tax reform.

**Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the Role**

We're currently looking for someone to join the team as an **Analyst**. In this role you will use policy skills to shape and influence the Treasury's position on tax policy and advise Ministers, and will be part of a team of passionate people across both Treasury and Inland Revenue.

Our team leads on a range of issues and the work programme is flexible, and so your work would depend on your skills and interests as well as business needs at the time. But generally, our work involves a mix of:

- ** Tax policy work programme**: work on Treasury's input on elements of the public tax policy work programme, such as environmental taxation or international tax;
- ** Stewardship**: strategic work to develop Treasury's views on major issues in the tax system and its place in wider economic and fiscal policy.
- ** Vote revenue**: working with the Vote Manager to advise on IR spending and work on the Budget;

Please note this is not an entry-level position for recent graduates. It would suit someone who has recently completed a graduate programme in the public sector, or with Analyst-level experience in the public or private sector.

- An interest in tax policy
- Experience in one or more of public policy, economic policy, and/or vote analysis;
- Critical thinking and an ability to see issues from a range of perspectives;
- Good communication, interpersonal, influencing, and relationship management skills;
- An ability to plan and deliver work effectively in a dynamic environment.

Tax experience or technical expertise is not required.
