The **Tax Strategy team** provides tax policy advice to the Ministers of Finance and Revenue, working alongside Inland Revenue. We focus on the issues that have the most significant economic, fiscal, or wider implications, and on shaping the overall strategic direction for tax policy.
**Korero mo te turanga | About the Role**
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Analyst in our Tax Strategy team. Your role will include advising the Ministers of Finance and Revenue on the design of potential tax policy changes, while working closely with officials across the Treasury and at Inland Revenue. The work programme is flexible and your responsibilities will be tailored to your skills, interests and business needs at the time. We expect that it would cover a mix of:
- Supporting the tax policy work programme for Budget 2025 and future Budgets,
- Engaging with a range of stakeholders in the public, private and NGO sectors, and
- Research and analysis to deepen Treasury's thinking on a range of significant tax policy issues, so that we can advise Ministers on the big issues of the day.
Appointing salary for this role will be between $126,612 and $148,955 per annum, based on skills and experience.

The specific experience, skills, and qualities that will help you succeed in this role include:
- An interest in tax policy (although previous tax policy experience is not required),
- Experience in one or more of public policy, economic policy, economic analysis, and (for some roles in the team) economic data analysis,
- Excellent writing and communication skills (including presenting technical information in plain English),
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills and an ability to see issues from a range of perspectives,
- Highly developed interpersonal, influencing, and relationship management skills, including the ability to bring a large number of people with different expertise and profiles together, and
- An ability to plan and deliver work effectively in a dynamic environment.
A minimum of five years' relevant experience is a must.
