Are you a dynamic and results-oriented professional seeking a challenging leadership opportunity in the public sector? We are currently recruiting for a National Manager Business Operations and Performance to join Verification Services (VS), which sits within New Zealand Food Safety.
As the National Manager Business Operations and Performance, you will play a pivotal role in driving operational efficiency, performance excellence, and strategic growth across the country's primary sector.
This individual will be a key member of the VS Leadership team by leading Operational Support, Performance Monitoring, Business and Operations Advice, Quality Management, and own the shared services relationships that exist between VS and MPI. The Operations and Performance Branch enables VS to run smoothly operationally and is the centre of excellence for the monitoring and improvement of VS performance.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to;
- Lead within a large and complex organisation including managing people, finances and resources.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and utilize data-driven insights to make informed decisions and recommendations.
- Identify and mitigate potential risks and issues that may impact operational efficiency and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
- Lead and manage a diverse team of professionals, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to drive high performance and professional development.

Mōu - About You
Due to the commercial nature of VS, this role may suit someone with experience in the private sector or a large government agency with the knowledge to effectively use data to make sound business decisions.

**To be successful in this role you will need**:

- Seasoned business management capability including performance and financial management. The latter will require you to work closely with VS leadership, Finance and Branch Planning Systems & Support Directorate to oversee the provision of high quality, timely and accurate financial management and reporting.
- Experience providing high quality business performance monitoring and reporting, including financial performance, is a must.
- Strong strategic thinking abilities with the capacity to analyse complex problems, devise innovative solutions, and implement effective strategies.
- Proven track record of successfully leading and managing large-scale operations, achieving performance targets, and driving continuous improvement.
- Experience as a leader and natural collaborator, and in managing complex relationships with stakeholders including union engagement.
- A relevant tertiary qualification and/or relevant experience in general business management including strategic business planning.

You will be able to establish credibility and relationships quickly and be adaptable and resilient thriving in a complex and changing environment. Your superior organisational skills, the ability to plan and problem-solve on the fly when required will be vital to your success.
Experience in project management and/or change management would be highly desirable.

This position will report to the Director of Verification Services and work closely with a national team, so the ideal applicant will enjoy collaborating with key stakeholders to assist in problem solving, identifying solutions, providing options, and cost benefit analysis.
