Who we are - Ko wai mātou
$175 billion of funds under management, 1,000 managed funds, 125 managed investment schemes, four supervisors, and (potentially) you. Managed funds (including KiwiSaver) are one of the most popular ways for New Zealanders to invest, grow their wealth and save for retirement. The FMA's Investment Management team is a team dedicated to developing the sector, looking out for investors, and supporting good conduct. Right now, we're searching for an exceptional Senior Adviser to join the team.
The Role - Te Tūranga
As a Senior Adviser you'll be lending your knowledge of policy development and your problem solving abilities to help improve the experience of investors, the quality of managed funds and the capability of the FMA. You'll be working on big projects that "raise the bar" as well as supporting other parts of the FMA to promote and facilitate the development of fair, efficient, and transparent managed funds.
Right now, we're working on improving value for money for investments, ensuring fund managers' business models and risk-management capabilities work for investors, and looking to the horizon for ways to promote sector growth while improving risk management practices.

As a specialist in developing policies or guidance, you will make key contributions to the team's work the regulation of managed investments. This position will allow you to work closely with other teams across the FMA as well as giving you the opportunity to engage directly with managed investment schemes, supervisors and industry associations. You'll be helping us analyse novel issues in the industry, develop effective solutions and implement improvements in a fair and consistent way.
About you - Ō pūkenga
Ideally you'll have knowledge of developing guidance or policies in a government or commercial context, and have an interest in KiwiSaver and investing. You'll have excellent research skills, and you will bring strong written and verbal communication skills that will allow you to translate your expertise and insights in a clear and concise way. You'll be confident engaging and consulting with management of regulated entities, and you will be familiar with (or quick to learn) the regulations governing investment management in New Zealand. You'll also be enthusiastic about driving improvements to the sector and seeing the benefits to investors, fund managers, and New Zealand as a whole.
