Data Lead Governance

**The Role**:

- Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of data management policies, including cloud-based enterprise data ecosystems architecture, standards, monitoring, and service provision
- Drive the delivery of the Data Strategy and Data Strategy Roadmap, considering lineage, security, data quality, and metrics across the data platform and pipelines
- Develop and implement a comprehensive Data Framework/Operational Playbook, defining key data roles, enterprise data governance capabilities, integrated information protection principles, and high-level data and analytics processes
- Champion a data culture change, promoting good practices, and implementing Data Stewardship guidance
- Establish and manage the Data Quality Standard/Control Framework, including the development of holistic data quality standards and observability of core data quality metrics
- Define data classification, ensure appropriate data labelling and protection and prioritise troubleshooting and remediation efforts
- Lead the implementation and maintenance of the Data Security & Privacy Framework, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
- Oversee the development and delivery of Security & Privacy Templates, including the review of data migration solutions and establishment of data access controls
- Establish and manage a Data Governance Committee, operating model, and decisioning frameworks
- Drive risk management, reporting, and governance activities related to data accuracy, timeliness, and availability
- Develop and deliver training on data governance best practices and policies

**Knowledge and Skills**:

- Relevant, recent experience within a similar role as part of a large, fast paced, complex transformation programme
- At least 5 years of experience working in data governance roles
- Experience working within the NZ government sector (preferred)
- Experience working with a diverse range of stakeholders and able to demonstrate a successful track record in facilitating engagement
- Proven experience communicating complex topics with both technical and business audiences in prior roles
- Experience leading technical teams under a matrix management model to deliver results and the ability to mentor, coach, and support others in the delivery of the work programme
- Strong technical expertise in data governance
- Understanding of the machinery of NZ government and related processes and procedures (desirable)
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Strong analytical skills, able to effectively present insights to a range of audiences
- Strong advisory skills, able to translate tech speak for lay people
- Highly skilled in leading and managing technical teams
