**Tēnei tūranga - About the role**:
MBIE’s Space Policy and Sector Development team is seeking a Policy Advisor to coordinate the delivery of MBIE’s contributions to the MethaneSAT satellite mission. MethaneSAT is New Zealand’s first official space mission partnership and will contribute to global efforts to slow global warming. To find out more about the mission please click here.

You will also have oversight of MBIE’s support for Rongowai, a New Zealand/US multi-institutional project in partnership with NASA’s CYGNSS mission.

You will be responsible for managing the implementation contracts with research institutes and space companies. You will work with a range of partners to maximise the science, policy and education benefits from the missions.

There is potentially scope for the successful applicant to also support other projects.

- a space science or engineering background would be an advantage

About the team

MBIE’s space functions provide opportunities to accelerate the growth of the New Zealand space sector. We also work on edgy policy issues in servicing a domestic regulatory regime for space and high-altitude activities.
The Space Policy and Sector Development team is an integral part of the New Zealand Space Agency. We sit within MBIE’s Science, Innovation and International Branch.
We forge international space research partnerships and work with other MBIE teams on delivering government science and innovation investments. We develop policy on space and high-altitude activities. We also deliver initiatives to educate and engage the public on space, including the next generation of space professionals.
