Te Tūāpapa Kura Kāinga - The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) leads Aotearoa - New Zealand's housing and urban development work programme.

Mō te tūnga | About the role
HUD's Māori Housing Unit - Te Kāhui Māori Housing
- leads HUD's focus to boost housing and urban development outcomes for Māori, working closely with Te Puni Kōkiri and Kāinga Ora - Homes and Communities. Te Kāhui is also engaging whānau, hapū, iwi and Māori and with key stakeholders to support those who seek to progress developments and realise their aspirations with housing and urban development. It is an exciting time to be working in Māori housing. Te KāhuiMāori Housing has recently launched a thirty year Strategy for Māori Housing - MAIHI Ka Ora, and the Waitangi Tribunal Kaupapa Inquiry into Housing Policy and Services (WAI 2750) is also underway.
As Policy Advisor you will support the overall capability of the team through gathering evidence, analysing policy issues, developing policy options and preparing policy advice for defined policy issues.
To be successful in this role you will build and maintain strong working relationships and contribute to larger, more complex projects where others have the accountability for the delivery of outputs.

**The Policy Advisor is responsible for**:

- Setting policy advice in a broad political, economic and strategic context, and conducting analysis within the medium and longer term policy agenda
- Gathering, analysing and assessing key information and evidence from a variety of sources
- Establishing a sound base of content knowledge, and learning how to be guided in this process by the policy agenda
- Engaging effectively with delivery agencies, stakeholders and other government agencies
- Contributing to developing practical and effective policy options that will help to achieve the desired outcomes
- Providing clear, accurate, and well-reasoned policy products that are targeted to the audience

- Critical thinking skills with sound reasoning and judgement
- Ability to analyse issues without the total picture
- Effective at building relationships with stakeholders, delivery agencies and government agencies; understanding their perspectives and reflect them in advice
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- You will be an existing Policy Advisor with public policy experience
- You bring an understanding of Māori values, practice and perspective and me ōna tikanga to your work, (competency in te Reo Māori would be a bonus).
