Mō te tūnga | About the role The Tenancy and Tenures team are the lead advisors on policy and legislation for rental housing, housing quality and unit titles sectors. We provide advice on a range of issues impacting tenants and landlords and the wider rental system. In this role, you will support work on issues relating to the Residential Tenancies Act 1986 - a key Act of Parliament covering residential tenancies across Aotearoa New Zealand, setting out rights and obligations for landlords and tenants. You will also have the opportunity to support the team's wider work on issues across the rental housing system, including healthy homes standards, the regulation of the residential property management sector, the development of the Unit Titles Act and associated regulations, and regulations for the management of methamphetamine contamination in rental housing. The Tenancy and Tenures team sits within the Solutions Design and Implementation (SDI) group, which designs the detailed policy, legislation and funding settings and tools needed to achieve our system priorities. The salary range for this role is $71,100 - $86,900 + 3% Kiwisaver contribution. Ō wheako, ō pukenga | About you You may be an Advisor looking to broaden your experience. You may even be a recent graduate, perhaps with a qualification in economics or law. You will be an articulate and competent communicator, both verbal and written. You will be a strong team player, able to work proactively and collaboratively in a high-performing team and keen to grow your skills in these areas. Ideally your skills and experience will include
- A good base of experience in public policy as a Policy Advisor and/or transferable skills from an advisory or legal or other similar role or you may be a recent graduate
- You will likely have a degree level qualification in the policy, economics, or legal area
- Be a logical thinker, problem solver and a healthy level of curiosity
- Bring knowledge of policy development disciplines and processes
- Enjoy working on complex problems, generating ideas and coming up with solutions
- The ability to build relationships with others and work collaboratively
- The ability to work through ambiguity and work flexibly deliver results
