Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
The public health registrar role is a training position for registered medical practitioners who are on a training programme to become a Public Health Medicine Specialist. The role comprises a mix of service work, responding to incident public health concerns and supporting work across Regional Public Health, and project work that enables more intensive exposure to a particular policy or operational problem. Work can encompass regulatory and legislative aspects of public health, communicable disease control, environmental health, emergency response, health promotion and school health. Project work that addresses equity, in particular affecting Māori, Pacific, disabled and rainbow populations is prioritised.

You will be a working in a dynamic team comprising public health medicine specialists, the majority of whom are medical officers of health, other public health registrars and a PGY house officer. The work of the medical team is intrinsically linked with operational and policy work activities across Regional Public Health, and in so doing there is a wide range of opportunities for work in multidisciplinary teams. Regional Public Health is the public health service provider for the greater Wellington region, and has strong links with a wide range of agencies and organisations. Regional Public Health is large enough to offer a wide range of work experiences, but small enough to be a cohesive and supportive work environment.
