He Pou a Rangi Climate Change Commission is an independent agency dedicated to driving climate action in Aotearoa New Zealand, with a strong statutory mandate. We provide impartial, evidence-based advice to the Government on mitigating and adapting to climate change. We also monitor progress towards emissions reduction and adaptation goals and report on this publicly.

Te Tūranga | The role
The Principal Advisor, Māori Economy provides specialist, strategic and pragmatic analysis and advice to ensure that the Evidence and Advice Group is well positioned in meeting the priority areas relating to the Māori economy.
The Evidence and Advice Group is accountable for developing the evidence base under sections 5M, 5T, 5ZC, 5ZP, 5ZQ, 5ZOA of the CCRA, including engaging to gather and test evidence and providing input into the delivery of our work programmes, and developing and maintaining the right in-house analytical tools and frameworks. This role takes a lead in providing specialist analysis and advice to the Group on matters relating to the Māori economy across the planned work programme and priorities, and other specific areas of ao Māori which will face significant climate related challenges such as urban Māori, isolated hapori Māori, and marae.
Ngā herenga | The role will involve
- Providing or contributing to analysis and advice to the group on the priority areas relating to the Māori economy across the planned work programmes.
- Providing robust advice, analysis and intellectual leadership and direction in the areas of kaupapa Māori frameworks and te ao Māori to the Group as required.
- Providing thought leadership to the group to ensure the Commission meets its statutory obligations to iwi and Māori, and ensures the Commission fosters ongoing relationships with iwi and Māori.
- Acting as a leader within the Commission
- Providing technical expertise and leadership to project teams as required.
- Supporting engagement with iwi and Māori for the Evidence and Advice Group. Engage with iwi and Māori in a manner that upholds tikanga, recognises the Crown - Māori partnership, and the Commission's responsibilities under the CCRA.
- Working closely with the Principal Advisor, Māori to ensure cohesion in the delivery of advice where there may be overlap on projects, analysis or written advice.
- Representing the position of the Commission accurately and professionally in a range of external fora. 

He kōrero mōu | About you
Key to success in this position is an in-depth understanding of te ao Māori (including tikanga and kawa), the Māori economy, and mana whenua, as well as the ability to build and maintain relationships in a te ao Māori context across a broad range of groups such as iwi, ahu whenua trusts, and community organisations.
**You will also have**:

- A relevant tertiary qualification
- A proven background in technical engagement with Māori.
- Highly developed analytical and critical reasoning skills, with experience in developing and implementing workable solutions to ambiguous and complex problems.
- A good understating of the potential impacts arising from policy development and implementation specifically for Māori, whānau, hapū, Māori-Collectives and Māori organisations
- Keen awareness of matters that are of importance to Māori, particularly where they intersect with achieving climate equity for Māori.
- Strong quantitative and qualitative skills

The full salary range for this position is $147,762 to $221,644. We expect to appoint the starting salary within the lower two-thirds of the full range.
