The Principal Policy Advisor is a leadership position in MBIE. The role offers significant potential to coach and mentor other team members and lead significant pieces of work. You will bring your proven policy, relationship management expertise and delivery skills to support our work with key partners facing transitions.

About the Branch/Team
The Economic Development and Transition Branch is responsible for providing policy advice on issues relating to the growth of our firms, sectors and regions. We are also interested in how the government supports sectors, regions and workers through transitions, whether they be from adapting to climate change policy responses, or other effects such as automation or technological disruption.

Just Transitions key focus is on Southland and Taranaki regions, and supporting the regions as they take their aspirations through to initiatives. The role offers work across government to develop long-lasting solutions that will support the region's future vision.

Ngā pukenga me ngā wheako e hiahiatia ana - Skills and Experience Required

We are looking for a policy professional at the Principal Advisor level or an established Senior Policy Advisor ready to make the move to Principal Advisory level. You will ideally possess the following skills and experience:

- Demonstrated policy, people and thought leadership.
- Ability to work with ease in a complex and ambiguous operating environment, with an ownership mindset to deliver results.
- Proven track record in forming and sustaining partnerships with a wider range of officials, agencies, and stakeholders.
- Ability to build credible, respected relationships with diverse stakeholders, including Ministers, Boards, senior leaders, and key external stakeholders.
- Ability to write and present with clarity on complex policy issues.
- Understand public policy processes including stakeholder consultation, as well as of current government policy and community views on the Treaty of Waitangi.
- Enjoys coaching and mentoring others.
- Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
