A unique opportunity has now become available for an experienced Policy and Advocacy Officer to join a small and dynamic team to contribute to policy and advocacy in mental health.

Working for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP), the organisation represents the medical speciality of Psychiatry in Australia and New Zealand.

The Policy and Advocacy Officer will coordinate and prepare RANZCP policies and submissions that are relevant to the practice of psychiatry and mental health in New Zealand and Australia, and to enhance the profile and strategic position of psychiatry and the RANZCP in New Zealand through a range of policy, advocacy and communications initiatives.

**This role has a specific focus to**:

- Develop relevant policy submissions and briefing papers and work with key stakeholders within the mental health sector in New Zealand.
- Analyse relevant policy, and actively monitor emerging issues relevant to psychiatric practice and mental health.
- Provide policy support to New Zealand based committees and members.
- Consult with members and committees of the RANZCP.
- Research and prepare submissions, reports, fact sheets and other policy documents and correspondence for relevant committees.
- Undertake daily New Zealand media monitoring.

**The successful applicant will have**:

- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of policy development and analysis with specific expertise in health and social arenas.
- A good knowledge and understanding of the New Zealand health care system.
- Demonstrated experience in a range of communications and media activities.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Mori health issues and a commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi.
- Demonstrated ability to work with committee chairs and members to support the strategic prioritisation, planning, delivery, and evaluation of policy and advocacy objectives.
- An understanding of governmental structures and process, and the mental health sector is desirable.
