**About the team | Ko te rōpū nei**
Our Parks, Three Waters and Transport units have assets that are at risk of natural hazard impacts, particularly those exacerbated by climate change such as coastal hazards. In order for us to plan and respond to these risks we are seeking **three Asset Adaptation Specialists** to join our team—each supporting one of our key business units: Parks, Three Waters, or Transport. While each role is embedded within a different unit, all three positions share a common purpose: to lead and support adaptation-related asset planning and management across the city.
**About the role | Ko te mahi nei**
Each Asset Adaptation Specialist will play a key role in leading and supporting adaptation-related asset planning and management. As the conduit between the Coastal Hazards Adaptation Planning (CHAP) team and your business unit, you will be helping to collate technical responses, undertaking analysis/assessment of adaptation options and supporting clear lines of communication within and outside of Council. A key role will be to work within the CHAP programme to guide the Coastal Panel of community and rūnanga representatives to develop preferred adaptation plans for Council assets within your business unit.
You'll be the go-to expert within your business unit, helping to assess climate risks, develop adaptation pathways, and integrate resilience into Council's long-term planning ensuring Christchurch's assets are future-ready.
In this role, you'll:
- Lead technical, policy, and engagement workstreams tailored to your business unit.
- Provide strategic advice on climate adaptation planning, risk assessments, and asset management.
- Collaborate across Council to align adaptation efforts with broader goals and statutory responsibilities.
- Communicate complex technical information to a wide range of audiences, including elected members and the public.
- Support the development and implementation of adaptation plans and contribute to community engagement efforts.
**About you | Ko Koe Tēnei**
This role is ideal for someone who wants to be at the forefront of planning for the impacts of a changing climate. Whether your background is in climate adaptation or asset management, we're looking for professionals who can bring their expertise to help Christchurch respond to oncoming challenges associated with climate change and collaborate with others to make a meaningful difference.
You might be an adaptation specialist with experience in environmental science, planning, or climate risk—or you might come from an asset management or infrastructure background, with a deep understanding of how to plan, maintain, and future-proof public assets. Either way, you'll be supported to grow your skills and contribute meaningfully to our city's long-term resilience.
