**About the team | Ko te rōpū nei**
The multi-disciplinary Coastal Hazards Adaptation Planning (CHAP) team is collaborative, innovative, and passionate about preparing Council, communities and rūnanga for the impacts of climate change. The team are responsible for building and communicating information on climate risk, and their programme works with asset owners across Council to develop adaptation plans for public assets at risk of climate hazards.
**About the role | Ko te mahi nei**
As the Principal Advisor Adaptation, you will play a key technical leadership role in the coastal hazards adaptation planning process, helping to shape how communities respond to the impacts of climate change.
Working closely with the Principal Advisor Coastal Adaptation, you will help lead the delivery of the technical components of the adaptation planning process, as outlined in the Council's Coastal Adaptation Framework—or any future iterations adopted by Council.
You will also be responsible for:
- The development and oversight of key planning processes such as risk and vulnerability assessments, options analysis, and the creation of adaptation pathways.
- The commissioning and management of relevant technical studies, ensuring they align with broader hazard research across Council
- Communicating complex hazard science in a clear and accessible way to Council, Coastal Panel, communities, runangā, and other stakeholders
- Providing expert advice and guidance on coastal and/or river flooding hazards to support planning and policy development across Council
**About you | Ko Koe Tēnei**
We're looking for someone who combines deep technical expertise with strategic thinking and a passion for building community resilience. To thrive in this role you will bring:
- A Master's degree (or higher) in geography, ecology, environmental science, natural resources planning, or a related discipline
- Ideally 10 years of experience in a relevant field, including 7+ years in a senior advisory or leadership role.
- A proven track record in delivering or supporting adaptation planning processes in communities.
- Experience leading complex, multi-disciplinary projects and providing strategic technical advice.
- A strong background in public speaking and communicating complex or sensitive information to a range of audiences.
