Job Description**
Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity**
This study _Growing up in New Zealand_ has been running for over 10 years, we have been seeking to understand what life is like growing up in 21st Century New Zealand. To meet this ambitious and complex outcome we have been tracking more than 6,000 Kiwi children from before they were born until today. We are the country's largest contemporary longitudinal study of child development, and our findings will influence research, policy and services to improve the well-being of all New Zealand children and their families.
We are seeking a Research Fellow who will be able to contribute to the wellbeing of whānau and tamariki Māori by conducting statistical analysis while bringing your understanding of te ao Māori to the ultimate findings and reporting.
On offer is a 0.6 FTE (24 hours per week), 16 month fixed term employment opportunity in _Growing Up in New Zealand_.
This academic role is for an experienced Māori researcher who will be part of a multidisciplinary team. You will provide strong analytical and report writing skills to the GUiNZ team and ensuring that our research is contributing to positive outcomes for Māori.
You will actively contribute to the _Growing Up in New Zealand_ study with research aspects as required including planning, coordinating analyses and reporting in the context of the longitudinal design.

**Mō tō mātou rōpū | About the team**
GUiNZ is based in the School of Population Health in the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, one of five in the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, established in July 2003. The mission is to work with others to provide knowledge and skills needed to improve the health of all New Zealanders. Currently located on the Grafton Campus, the school is fully self-contained, in a purpose-built building. This architecturally designed building maximises interaction and collaboration.
The _GUiNZ_ research team is a multidisciplinary team responsible for six study domains: health and wellbeing, culture and identity, psychosocial and cognitive development, education, societal context, neighbourhood and environment and family and whānau. They operate as part of a wider team to achieve the aim of this longitudinal study.
Information from _Growing Up in New Zealand_ has provided insights into a diverse range of areas such as paid parental leave, immunisation, poverty and material hardship, family housing and mobility, household safety, bullying, participation in Early Childhood Education, and pre
- and post-natal depression among fathers in New Zealand.
**He kōrero mōu | About you**
You will bring the following:
- A PhD degree in any of the following disciplines: public health, population health with a focus on Māori health or Pacific health, social sciences, biological sciences, or a related field of relevance to the study.
- Experience in undertaking Māori-focused research
- Excellent report writing, quantitative data analysis, scientific writing and editing skills.
- Expertise in working with complex population datasets and the ability to quickly develop a thorough understanding of the _Growing Up in New Zealand_ project and its longitudinal objectives in particular.
- Ability and willingness to work in a collaborative manner within a multi-disciplinary academic environment.
