Mō te tūnga | About the role
At Interpreter
Services, we call on a pool of interpreters dedicated to interpreting for
non-English speaking and Deaf patients. The Interpreter Services booking team
co-ordinate arrangements between the health professionals and the interpreter
to ensure the patients have an
independent interpreter present at the appropriate time and location. We are
always on the lookout for trained interpreters and particularly speakers of
both English and Cantonese, Mandarin, Filipino and Samoan but we have a demand
for many, many other languages as well.
Most of the
requests for interpreters are at Christchurch Public Hospital and Christchurch
Women - s Hospital but we also get requests from Burwood Hospital, Hillmorton
Hospital and Princess Margaret Hospital, some private practices, as well as
home visits. At times the interpreters are required to phone the patient to for
example, remind/advise them of appointments or actually translate over the
phone.

In this role, you will

**be responsible for**:

- Accurate interpreting between the

health professional and the patient
- Maintaining confidentiality and privacy
for the patient at all times
- Acting in a professional manner at all
times
- Punctuality when attending all
appointments - this is critical
- Ensuring all timesheets are accurately
completed and signed and retuned to the Interpreting Services OfficeNgā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
- Fluency in English and at least 1 other

language (Farsi and Cantonese)
- Professionally trained in interpreting preferably in a medical
environment
- A NAATI qualification (or working towards it), NAATI recognised
qualification.
- Managing patient confidentiality within your community
- Ability to prioritise your time
- Ability to relate to people of different ages and different
