**Āu Mahi | What You Will Do**
- Designing, coordinating, and delivering Chinese language and translation & interpreting courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In addition to Chinese language courses at the intermediate and/or advanced levels, such courses in T&I include contributing to TRIN401 ('In Other Words What? Introduction to T&I'); coordinating TRIN404 ('Translating and Interpreting for the Community'); and CHIN415 ('Specialised Chinese T&I').
- Undertaking and publishing high-quality, peer-reviewed research in the field of Chinese language, applied linguistics, translation & interpreting studies, or related areas.
- Supervising honours and postgraduate research students, including at the PhD level, fostering academic excellence in the discipline in their area of expertise
- Contributing to the ongoing development of the curriculum, ensuring it is innovative, relevant, and responsive to student and industry needs.
- Undertaking academic citizenship, including pastoral care, outreach, and service to the Department, Faculty, and wider University.
- Building links with colleagues across disciplines and engaging with external partners to enhance the profile of the programme.
**Mōu | Who You Are**
To be successful in this role you will have:
- A PhD (or equivalent) in Chinese Studies, Applied Linguistics, Translation & Interpreting Studies, or a related field.
- Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality, refereed research publications in Chinese language, translation & interpreting, or related areas.
- Proven experience teaching Chinese language and translation & interpreting at tertiary level.
- Native or near-native proficiency in both Chinese and English.
- NAATI (National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters) certification at the level of CPI, CT (or higher)
- A strong track record of community and professional engagement, especially with the local Christchurch branch of NZSTI (New Zealand Society of Translators and Interpreters)
- Experience in securing external research funding in your field
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire a diverse student body.
- Experience with, and commitment to, innovative pedagogy, including e-learning and the integration of digital technologies into teaching.
- A collaborative approach, with the ability to contribute to the growth and leadership of the Chinese as well as T&I programmes within the Te Kaupeka Toi Tangata | Faculty of Arts.
