We have an exciting role for a **Wood Process Engineer** to join our Materials Engineering and Manufacturing research group, located at our Rotorua campus. Reporting to the Team Lead - Materials Analysis, Characterisation and Testing, the primary responsibility of this role is to provide engineering expertise in process development for timber manufacturing, and to support wood processing research and the testing of timber products.
We are looking for someone who is driven by continuous improvement, who will provide expertise to contribute to the growth of the timber manufacturing industry in New Zealand. In your role you will support the development and optimisation of new processes in the wood manufacturing space. You will be a great people person with the ability to interact with industry to develop strong relationships with key industry stakeholders. A key component of this role requires you to regularly engage with stakeholders to understand their needs and provide them with new research opportunities and solutions. You will have the ability to provide hands-on construction capability and conduct routine structural testing where required. A large proportion of this role will be project based so you will be required to effectively manage your time and meet deadlines to ensure project success. You will also contribute to scoping, planning and costing new projects. You will be involved in the reporting and documentation of work, including but not limited to technical documentation, reports and proposals.
**To be successful, you will be**:
- Tertiary qualified (preferably MSc) in Wood Process Engineering, Industrial Engineering or similar engineering discipline
- Technically capable and mechanically minded
- Open-minded and forward-thinking
- Able to think analytically and methodically to solve real problems
- A team player with great communication, time management and prioritisation skills
- Driven to learn new skills and expand on your expertise
- A great people person, with ability to network, connect and translate technical information to internal and external stakeholders
