The Urban and Infrastructure Policy and Planning unit has team members across Aotearoa New Zealand including in the Wellington office and Auckland Policy Office. Essentially, we work on all things urban policy - including urban planning, design, growth, housing, infrastructure, and climate related urban issues. We work collaboratively with other agencies, especially with Te Tūāpapa Kura Kāinga - the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Our goal is to ensure the planning and delivery of well-functioning urban environments.
Senior Policy Analyst in the Infrastructure and Growth Team.
The Infrastructure and Growth team plays a critical part in the Urban and Infrastructure Planning and Policy unit, providing infrastructure policy and planning expertise to advance well-functioning urban environments. In this senior role you will be working in infrastructure and growth policy, developing policy and helping to guide its implementation and delivery. You will support the effective and efficient operation of infrastructure policy in the current RMA system as well as help shape and implement the new resource management system. Key areas of focus include infrastructure national direction in the National Planning Framework, built form and infrastructure in the Emissions Reduction Plan, and specific infrastructure replated projects such as advancing nature-based solutions for urban stormwater.
Senior Policy Analyst in the Urban Implementation Team
We have a Senior Analyst role available in the Urban Implementation Team. As a Senior Analyst, you will support the effective and efficient operation of urban policy in the current RMA system as well as help shape and implement the new resource management system. In particular, you will be providing policy advice, including monitoring and reporting, on integration of urban matters through multiple policy areas, such as the evolving Natural and Built Environments Bill, National Policy Statement on Urban Development and the Enabling Housing Supply legislation. As a senior member of the team, you will play a key role in mentoring analyst peers through their development.
Both roles offer a unique opportunity to work as part of a high performing, focussed unit to deliver and implement urban and infrastructure policy within the existing system and the future resource management system.

- A good working knowledge of the RMA and resource management matters, in particular the current national urban policy
- An understanding of the role infrastructure plays to support growth and development
- Good policy development skills and experience
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Able to connect with partners and stakeholders and building relationships
- Ability to work across a number of work streams and to manage competing priorities
- Comfort in working with ambiguity and adaptability to changing priorities and new and emerging issues
- And are great team players.
- Confidence to guide and mentor others and a positive attitude

Whānuitanga Utu ā-Tau | Salary range
Salary range for this role is $105,802 to $128,424 pa. Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
