Resource Management (RM) reform is at a pivotal point in Aotearoa. As part of the proposed Natural and Built Environments Act, central government's proposed new National Planning Framework (NPF) will provide integrated strategic direction on the management of the environment.
This is a significant time and a unique chance to contribute to a once in a generation reform of our environment which will have lasting impacts for Aotearoa.
Mō te tūnga | About the role As an analyst or senior policy analyst you will support and advise at the forefront of policy and implementation to support and improve the role of Māori in the new resource management system.
- Regulatory policy and treaty impact analysis to support the development of new national direction content.
- Strategic policy to shape the forward NPF work programme over the next 5+ years as the new resource management system is implemented.
- Opportunity to support or leads aspect of a range of exciting work areas across the NPF programme, including the Board of Enquiry process and engagement with treaty and local government partners.
The NPF is a fast paced and evolving programme, and applicants should be comfortable with adapting to different work programmes and priorities as needs arise.
If you have a background in local or central government combined with knowledge and/or expertise in policy matters, then we want to hear from you. We are also keen to hear form people with a planning background, although this is not critical for the role. Crucial to your success will also be your strong policy analysis and engagement skills, alongside technical expertise in preparing, overseeing and peer reviewing the drafting of high-quality advice for Ministerial briefings and critical decision-making. Our Seniors also play a valuable role in guiding and coaching more junior colleagues in their mahi.
This is interesting and challenging mahi, so we are looking for motivated Analysts and Senior Policy Analysts who can ‘hit the ground running' and operate with a high degree of pragmatism and flexibility across multiple deliverables and deadlines.
- You have experience in policy development - local or central government
- You have a sound understanding of central government policy processes
- You have superior writing skills with experience of producing ministerial briefings and/or advice to senior leaders
- You have skills and credibility in stakeholder engagement and working across diverse groups
- You are highly organised and proactive in nature - you demonstrate comfort working in fast-paced and remote environments, balancing competing priorities
- You have experience of or the ability to manaaki, mentor and guide other colleagues in their mahi (For Senior only)
- You may have experience in/a sound understand of te ao Māori / te Tiriti / environmental legislation with experience of contributing to kaupapa that impacts on Māori
Whānuitanga Utu ā-Tau | Salary range
Salary range for the Senior Policy Analyst role is $101,802 to $124,424 pa. Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
Salary range for the Policy analyst role is $73,280 to $89.565 pa. Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
