The Carrier Relationship Officer supports Immigration Border Operations by building positive working relationships with carriers ensuring they meet their legal carrier responsibilities under the Immigration Act 2009.
Carrier Relationship Officers support the enforcement of carrier obligations by providing information, education, support and assistance to maximise carrier capability. Carrier Relationship Officers are an essential part of the border sector ensuring Immigration New Zealand interests and legislative requirements are reflected in carrier communication from sector partners.

- Strong communication skills and ability to build strong relationships quickly with a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
- Experienced in delivering information in a succinct way to a wide variety of end users
- Strong negotiation skills with third parties and external agencies to achieve a desirable outcome
- Ability to exercise superb judgement taking into account unique customer circumstances, broader considerations and constraints of legislation and/or policy
- Sound decision making ability under pressure, with limited information and within short timeframes
- Ability to handle difficult and sometimes aggressive passengers, and or other parties in an appropriate manner
- Demonstrate resilience by successfully managing time, workload and stress levels
- Develop lateral solutions to solve problems and manage risk
- Maintaining self-motivation, and displaying the energy, urgency, and determination to achieve
- Flexibility in approach to the working day and the activities at hand
- Correctly interpreting legislation and policy
- Accurately following internal procedures and instructions
- Communicating fluently in the English language, both written and oral
- High level of computer literacy

**Other**:

- May need to gain and maintain a national security clearance at CONFIDENTIAL level
- Must hold or be able to gain a practicing Immigration or Border officer warrant
- Must be able to hold or obtain and maintain an Aviation Security clearance
- Credit check and police vetting required
