Position Description
We're looking for a communications superstar to join our team.
We have a permanent, full-time vacancy for a Senior Communications Advisor who will have a focus on media relations.
You'll be joining a busy, friendly team who support the strategic direction of Rotorua Lakes Council, working with staff at all levels as well as with elected members, iwi and other stakeholders.
Our organisation is outcomes-focussed, values-based and proudly bicultural, delivering on a long-term vision and strategic direction to bring about positive change and progress for the Rotorua rohe and its residents.
At the same time we're involved in addressing key social challenges in our community and partnerships with iwi, Central Government and community stakeholders are key to how we work to achieve positive outcomes.
We're looking for an experienced, energetic, creative and strategic communicator who will offer fresh ideas, likes a challenge, enjoys working in a collaborative, often fast-paced environment and will support and be a leader within the team.
The communications work is varied and no two days are the same so we need competent, strong and versatile communicators who are committed and outcomes-driven, can get the mahi done and are calm and focussed under pressure.
As part of your role you will lead media relations, working closely with other communications and marketing staff, providing sound advice and delivering high quality communications aligned to the vision, direction and priorities of Council.
You'll engage with media on both a proactive and reactive basis, will need to build and maintain good relationships with our stakeholders - both internal and external - and will lead media liaison for the organisation, including in emergency and crisis situations.
While this role will have a focus on media relations, you'll also lead and contribute to other communications and marketing work across the organisation, as required, including contributing to public engagement and Council's Civil Defence role and responsibilities.
Te Kaunihera o nga Roto o Rotorua (Rotorua Lakes Council) is committed to working in partnership with Te Arawa, our local iwi. We aspire to being a bicultural organisation and we value staff who speak te reo Maori, have an appreciation of Maori values, and a working knowledge of tikanga Maori.
- Any offer of employment from the Rotorua Lakes Council will be conditional upon you being fully vaccinated and providing suitable evidence of vaccination or medical exemption._
