**Mō te tūranga | About the role**
Waikato Regional Council is looking for someone to develop, implement and maintain consistent Public Information Management systems, processes and plans to greater benefit and support our communities.
- Work with the GEMO Operational Readiness Team (Training and Exercise) to ensure a consistent level of training is provided to community roles, within Community Response Plans.
- Contribute to long term and annual planning processes, budget preparation, forecasting and reporting.
- Provide CDEM technical advice and input to the strategies, policies and plans of our key agency partners; relating to risk reduction and hazard mitigation.
- Be able to effectively communicate science to the community.
- Develop coordinate and support the implementation of policies, plans and processes that identify those communities that are least prepared to respond to and recover from emergencies.
- Available to be included in an on-call 24-hour/7-day GECC Public Information Manager roster.
- Build and maintain relationships with a range of stakeholders throughout the Waikato.
**Mō te tangata | About you**
- Previous experience leading a team, including the ability to coach and motivate people.
- Min 7 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in building and managing cross-agency engagement.
- Experience in working with iwi in partnership contexts.
- Exceptional relationship management and influencing skills.
- Excellent knowledge of the Treaty of Waitangi.
- Knowledge of mātauranga Māori.
- Good knowledge of Te Ao Māori.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills.
**Mō ngā pūkenga | Qualifications and experience**
- Tertiary qualification in communications, public relations or a related field.
- IAP2 (International Association for Public Participation) or equivalent.
- Civil Defence Emergency Management - Integrated Training Framework (ITF):
- Foundation
- Intermediate
- Public Information Management.
**Mō te tīma | About the team**
You will be working with a broad range of stakeholders across the Waikato Region Civil Defence Emergency Management Group that comprises a consortium of 11 local authorities, iwi, emergency services, lifelines utilities, welfare organisations, government departments and non-government organisations operating in the central area of New Zealand’s North Island, referred to as the Waikato region.
