As a Community Recreation Advisor, you'll encourage strengths-based, positive recreation opportunities that enhance well-being, a sense of belonging and that build social connectedness.

Working alongside communities to establish and support successful partnerships, you'll be culturally aware with a track record of empowering local people with diverse backgrounds. With a track record of engaging with community groups, you'll support them to find their own solutions to their own identified issues; all the while building capability and community capacity.

You'll provide information and advice to community organisations and other stakeholders to help them understand and navigate local government, facilitating partnerships between communities and the Council which support self-sustaining communities and meeting the Council's outcomes.

You'll also provide professional advice and recommendations to decision-makers regarding the use and management of resources and take a lead role in implementing the goals of the Council's Strengthening Communities Strategy as well as the Council's various Community Grants Schemes.

To meet the challenges of this role, you'll have exceptional communication skills with proven experience in building and maintaining positive relationships. You'll be someone who can naturally recognise opportunities and develop pragmatic responses to community issues, as well as self-motivated, and service-driven.

As a professional and collaborative individual, you'll be an ambassador for the Christchurch City Council working with community groups, elected members, government agencies as well as other Christchurch City Council units. You'll have a very high level of attention to detail, demonstrated experience in community recreation and working with a local authority or government/community organisation. You'll have a tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in Community Recreation, Sports Science, Community Development or relevant associated field.

Because we never know when an extra task or project will pop up we need someone with a flexible, can-do attitude, who is willing to go the extra mile to make sure the job gets done well. Meetings outside of business hours are required as part of the role so you'll be flexible in your hours and flexi-time will be offered in return.
