In addition, the council is responsible for planning and regulating land use and development in the district, and for ensuring that all activities comply with relevant laws and regulations. **About the position**:
The purpose of the Engagement & Culture Business Partner role is to work alongside designated groups within Council to assist in the effective provision of all Human Resource functions. Working closely with the Directorate, managers and employees; this role is responsible for providing advice and support for all human resource activity on a day-to-day basis, while also looking for opportunities to drive a high engagement and performance culture in the organisation.
Reporting to the Engagement and Culture Manager, this busy role will have a main focus within the recreation and culture area, including the library, pool, art gallery, and other regional facilities. The Engagement and Culture BP will work closely with the key stakeholders to provide effective, efficient, and professional delivery of HR advice to ensure the reputation of the Council as a ‘good employer’ is upheld across the organisation, the local government sector, and into our wider communities.
The salary for the role is $80,489 to $94,693 and will be based on skills and experience.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Maintain a strong focus within the Engagement and Culture group, Recreation and Culture group, User Experience and Community Engagement group, and Governance/CE administration team.
- Day-to-day HR generalist responsibilities including dispute resolution, recruitment, employment relations, performance and change management processes.
- Partner with group managers and directors to build their own and their team’s leadership capability.
- Assist in the development of relevant strategies that provides clarity and focus for action and decision making.
- Actively participate in project management, coordination, and completion of various improvement activities.
You will have an approachable and confident personality with a background in HR, People and Culture, or a related industry. Your excellent communication skills covering a variety of stakeholders is crucial to your success within this role. You will be a people person, who is easy going yet can hit the ground running with your critical thinking and drive. Risk management and strong strategy acumen is important, as well as being able to think outside the box. Your emotional intelligence and HR / P&C experience will be transferrable into a council environment, paired with a strong aptitude to learn.
- Hold a Diploma or Degree in Human Resources or relevant field.
- Bring 5+ years of experience within a similar or related field.
- Hold a strong level of self-confidence and be comfortable with public speaking.
- Maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Be competent with technology including social media, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and CRM software.
- Have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to initiate and engage effectively at all levels.
- Have experience with dispute resolutions, recruitment, and employment relations.
- Understanding of relevant and up to date employment law including the Holiday Act.
